Weekend before last, Lisa and I decided to drop by the North Carolina Museum of History, which was pretty full of cool stuff. For no reason I can think of, I'm a big fan of skull iconography, so when I saw this flag, I had to take a picture. 'Twas the flag of Blackbeard, of whom you may have heard -- a variation on the skull and crossbones, the skeleton with the hourglass in one hand and the heart-stabbing spear in the other meant "your time is running out. You're going to die."
So, you know, Blackbeard had that going for him. Which is nice.
As my tattoo artist can tell you, I'm a big fan of symbol language, and this particular symbol message by an illiterate, drunken privateer was just too cool not to take pictures of.
Also, no snakes. You're welcome, Mom. :)

I think I'm going to revive the privateer profession. Tomorrow. If I feel like it.
I know where you can get a boat. Cheap. Of course, you live in a landlocked state, so you'll pretty much have to wait for people to come up to you before you can do anything.
Nate, next time it rains for an hour I'll grab one of the boats that floats out of a yard down here and hide it for ya. Then you just have to figure out a way to get it BACK there
